2024 PLAYOFFS: WEST FIRST ROUND | CLIPPERS (4) VS. MAVERICKS (5)
Kawhi Leonard makes a comeback for Game 2 against the Mavericks.
Leonard was absent for the last 8 games of the regular season and Sunday's Game 1 victory over Dallas due to inflammation in his surgically repaired right knee.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kawhi Leonard made his return to the Los Angeles Clippers' lineup for Game 2 of their playoff clash against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks.
Leonard received the loudest ovation among the starters when he was introduced. Although he stole the ball from Kyrie Irving, he missed his first shot in the lane during the opening minutes.
After a three-week absence due to right knee inflammation, Leonard made his comeback.
"He's completed all the necessary steps to return to the court, checking off every box," coach Tyronn Lue stated before the game. "He's prepared."
There won't be any restrictions on Leonard's playing time; instead, Lue will monitor how his star forward feels during the game.
Leonard hasn't engaged in any contact practices leading up to the playoffs. His last appearance was on March 31.
In Game 1 on Sunday, the Clippers defeated the Mavs 109-97 while Leonard watched from the sidelines.
"He demands attention on both ends of the floor," remarked Mavs coach Jason Kidd. "Regardless of his absence duration, if he's on the court, he's ready."See More
