The Indiana Fever have chosen Caitlin Clark from Iowa as their top pick in the 2024 WNBA draft.

NEW YORK -- Caitlin Clark has officially made her mark in the professional realm.

Clark, renowned for her record-breaking feats in women's college basketball, was chosen as the top pick in the 2024 WNBA draft by the Indiana Fever on Monday night at the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

This draft marked a special occasion as it was the first time fans were welcomed since the 2014-2016 drafts. Tickets for the event sold out within 15 minutes of being released a few months ago, with 1,000 spectators eagerly attendin

Clark's selection was widely anticipated, especially after her announcement in late February that she would forego her remaining collegiate eligibility to enter the league.

However, the moment remained incredibly significant for Clark, her loved ones, the Iowa community, and the passionate fans who packed Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis to witness her don the Fever jersey on the jumbotron.

"When you're sitting at the table awaiting your name to be called, the emotions truly engulf you," Clark expressed. "Being surrounded by family during such a momentous occasion is truly special."

The Los Angeles Sparks, undergoing a transition following the departure of Nneka Ogwumike in free agency, made two selections in the lottery: Cameron Brink from Stanford at No. 2 and Rickea Jackson from Tennessee at No. 4. Brink's selection joins her with Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike as the third Stanford player to be chosen in the top two of the WNBA draft.

"I'm thrilled to stay on the West Coast and grateful for the opportunity the Sparks have given me," Brink remarked. "I'm eager to demonstrate my work ethic and contribute to the team's success."

Jackson, who began her collegiate career at Mississippi State, becomes Tennessee's 19th first-round pick, the second-highest in WNBA draft history.

The Chicago Sky made waves by selecting Kamilla Cardoso from South Carolina at No. 3 and Angel Reese from LSU at No. 7, both recipients of the Final Four Most Outstanding Player award in 2024 and 2023, respectively.

Reflecting on the new era with WNBA legend Teresa Weatherspoon at the helm, the Sky traded picks with Minnesota to secure the seventh pick.

Caitlin Clark's outstanding achievements in the college game set the stage for her entrance into the professional league. With numerous accolades to her name, including being the all-time career points leader in Division I history and the first player, male or female, to achieve 3,000 points, 750 rebounds, and 750 assists, Clark's presence in the WNBA heralds a new era.

Her remarkable scoring prowess, highlighted by a career average of 28.4 points, has garnered widespread attention, leading to sold-out arenas and skyrocketing television ratings.

Now, Clark embarks on her professional journey with the Indiana Fever, joining forces with last year's top pick, Aliyah Boston. The Fever, aiming to break a playoff drought since 2016, look to Clark to ignite a resurgence in the franchise and potentially alter the league's landscape for years to come.

"I'm incredibly fortunate to start my professional career with an organization that prioritizes women's basketball," Clark stated. "I'm thrilled to join the Fever and contribute to their quest for success."

With Clark's arrival, coupled with the talent already present in the Fever roster, hopes are high for a return to championship contention for the franchise.See More
